INTEGRATED
WIRELESS ACCESS POINT FOR CONSUMER ELECTRONICS
A
major Japanese electronics company approached Sigpro for strategic
advice on how to integrate WLAN (wireless LAN) components
in their product line. Sigpro defined a product plan that
described the available technologies and the cost and schedule
of implementation, allowing the client to determine the timing
and viability of adding this capability.
Customer
Requirement
The customer needed technical and market information in order
to make a decision on adding WLAN capability to its product.
Sigpro
Approach
Our system approach along with our hands-on experience in
WLAN technologies allowed us to efficiently handle the customer's
request. We proposed an emerging technology that fit the technical
requirements of the customer and offered fast time to market.
Key
Results:
- Sigpro
proposed a technological approach to developing a highly
flexible product that reduced the customer's stated time-to-market,
at a cost of development implementation that was less than
half that of the traditional approach.
- A
slightly higher unit cost for this approach greatly reduced
the expected time to market.
- The
approach offered an unparalleled ability to change both
the WLAN implementation, as well as system-level competitive
differentiation factors, all via software (not new silicon).
