INTEGRATED
VOICE MESSAGING FOR THE SET-TOP BOX
A
major set-top box manufacturer sought to increase its
service offering by including advanced telephony functions
in its product line. Sigpro defined a product roadmap
for roll-out of advanced voice messaging services, from
POTS-based telephony to interactive voice chat to full
VoIP functionality, defined the system specifications,
and delivered an initial product for legacy system upgrades.
Customer
Requirements
Improve set-top box platform and service offerings by
adding telephony and voice messaging to product line.
Sigpro
Approach
Define a three-phase product and service roadmap
that addresses subscribers' preferred features, current
customer offerings, and existing customer launch plans
to produce more subscribers, longer subscriber retention,
and additional service revenue.
- Phase
I: Basic Telephony Services via PSTN with minimal
service impact:
- Caller
ID
- Voice
Messaging
- Inbound
and Outbound Calling
- Phase
II: Integrated
Messaging & Voice Chat over Dial-Up
- Low-bandwidth
VoIP
- Integrated
Address Books and Buddy Lists
- Unified
Messaging
- Phase
III:
Full Telephony Services
-
Multi-line VoIP for the Home
- Integration
with third-party service providers
- Specify
hardware and software architecture requirements
and produce engineering plan for implementation
of all three phases to cover legacy systems and
proposed product offerings.
Deliver software implementations for set-top box
that minimize impact on server system upgrades.
Key
Results:
- Completed
architecture and product / service roadmap for all
three phases.
- Designed
and implemented Phase 1 product alpha release.
- Customer
was sufficiently impressed to seek equity stake in
Sigpro.
