H.323
CODECS FOR CLIENT-SERVER VIDEO CONFERENCING
Sigpro
was contracted by a major computer manufacturer to jump-start
its internal team on audio codecs for video conferencing using
its proprietary CPU architecture. Sigpro was chartered
to develop the entire suite of H.323 / 324 audio codecs for
use in both a central server and a thin-client. Technology
transfer of the intellectual property included teaching the
internal team the critical issues related to linear predictive
coding.
Customer
Requirement: Software development of audio codecs for
H.323/H.324 video conferencing client-server architecture:
- Timely
delivery of source code to roll out set-top box reference
design.
- Low
royalty license to drive mass-market quantities of reference design.
- Software
source must be portable to RISC/DSP-based thin clients and
high-end server platforms.
Customer
also needed in-house training on signal processing elements
for audio compression, specifically focusing on the complex
Code-Excited Linear Predictors.
Sigpro Approach
- Produce
optimized ANSI C source code for future porting to a variety
of specialized platforms.
- Deliver
software source under a fixed-price development contract,
with a no-royalty license.
- Prepare
and deliver on-site technical training seminars on audio
compression for customer engineering staff. Create on-line
tutorial lessons using MATLAB implementations of codecs.
